The People

In 1970s Mississippi, a mixed-race family seeks refuge from persecution and finds a new home in the People's Temple in San Francisco. But as they become more involved in the cult and its enigmatic leader, Jim Jones, they begin to realize that their salvation may come at a terrible cost.
The People is a serialized historical drama set within the final two years of The Peoples Temple cult. At its core, it is a dissection of how well-intentioned people can be coerced and manipulated into mindless followers. This core concept will be heavily explored as we watch the Harris Family go from a functional family unit to shells of their former selves. It is a devaluation of the common sense we all so proudly think we have. This journey will not always be painful, in fact at certain points, the Harris family will be closer than ever, alongside their new extended family, The Peoples Temple.
It is the people, their fellow members that will be responsible for the Harris’s transformations. Jim Jones will play a prominent and integral role as both the central antagonist and at times an anti-hero, but this is not his story, and it is not from his perspective. We will see Jim Jones as they saw him; a demi-god amongst men, someone who can do no wrong, a healer, a unifier, and someone who at times was a real catalyst for social change and race relations in America.
Each episode will explore the challenging day-to-day life of being a member of a cult. The backbreaking work and long hours, the constant watchful eye over you from not just Jim Jones but everyone else around you. Anyone could be your enemy or your best friend, or both.
